The reported June 9 theft of the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang replica car from the parking lot of A to Z Theatrical Supply and Service was alarming to A to Z because the car had been painstakingly custom built to be a true replica complete with wings and car gadgets and the ability to turn into a boat.
The theft was also alarming for The Raytown Arts Council. The car was not only under contract with the Council but it was in the process of finding car sponsor that would have the honor of showcasing the car in its showroom.
Then the car replica disappeared into the night of June 9 as thieves in a pickup drove off with a trailer with the car inside.
A to Z assured the Council there would be a suitable replacement even if the stolen car was not recovered. The directors, cast, crew and orchestra faithfully dedicated themselves to rigorous rehearsals to perfect their roles in the show.
True to its word, A to Z acquired a replacement last week so the show will go on to delight audiences in Raytown! Buy tickets now at Raytown Hy-Vee or online at RaytownArts.com/Tickets/.
